In light of this learning, in the future I will intentionally take time to think about possible perspectives before the implementation of any event or roadshow. Considering various viewpoints may help in coming up with ways to improve outreach to tertiary students. Although I mentioned previously that the visitor count at my booth exceeded my expectations, there is also a significant number of passers-by who were not interested in our roadshow. For instance, when giving out brochures after the roadshow, none of the passers-by I approached was responsive since they thought PG was not applicable to them. The problem with advocating for PG at tertiary level is that students tend to close up if the topic brought across does not to relate to them in any way. This roadshow takes a preventive approach whereby students are educated of the dangers of PG before being a potential victim in the future. By putting oneself in the shoes of others, we can work on ways to improve the effectiveness of reaching out to tertiary students. Considering various viewpoints is not only applicable to big events like these, it is essential in our everyday lives - in decision making, problem solving and so on. For me, my flaw is that I tend to not think at a deeper level and simply go with the flow until something has occurred. If I am able to anticipate potential challenges and risks and come up with various plans before they occur, I believe I will be more ready and compose to deal with any unexpected situation that may arise. Through this roadshow experience in advocating for PG, I have gained many insights relating to people’s motivations, effectiveness of advocacy, and the importance of taking on more perspectives in various areas of my life.
